In creating the ring that would recognize the first NFL franchise to win six Super Bowl championships, the Steelers wanted each of the different elements of the piece to reflect the historical significance of the accomplishment.

Six round, brilliant cut diamonds surround the Steelers logo to draw the eye to the ring crest, with each gem signifying a Super Bowl victory. The Steelers logo is formed with yellow, red and blue stones in the shape of hypocycloids sitting atop a football-shaped design created with 32 round diamonds. Seven diamonds at each tip of the football recognize the team’s seven AFC Championships and when combined, the 14 diamonds signify the number of Division titles in Steelers history.

One side of the ring depicts six Lombardi Trophies rising from Heinz Field to recognize the support and loyalty of Steelers fans. The score of the game – Pittsburgh 27, Arizona 23 – flanks the Lombardi trophies, with the official logo of Super Bowl XLIII on a field of green enamel included as well.

The opposing side of the ring is personalized with each individual player’s name and jersey number. That side also incorporates the Steelers helmet and the NFL shield to acknowledge both team and league.

The ring is cast in 14 karat yellow gold with black antique backgrounds to reflect the Steelers’ colors. The Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl XLIII ring weighs 104 grams (approximately 3.7 ounces) and incorporates 63 round, brilliant cut diamonds totaling 3.61 carats.

The loss of Larry Foote at mack inside linebacker opened the door for the team’s next defensive superstar, Lawrence Timmons. The former first-round pick has his weight up to 245 (from 236 at the Super Bowl) and he carried it like a future All-Pro this spring.

appunto  :sbadat:

Timmons, who had 71 tackles and five sacks in 2008, has gained weight without losing quickness and is playing with increased confidence as he becomes more comfortable with the defense.
"We're excited about what he's going to do for us," Tomlin said. "We have tangible evidence of what he's capable of doing. He played quite a bit last year and made critical plays at critical times. We expect that to increase and continue. In terms of quality of play, I don't anticipate any dropoff.''

"The one thing that stands out about (Hood) is him running to the football," Tomlin said. "He covers a lot of ground for a big man. It's unique for his position.''

"He is not going to have any problem learning our scheme because we ask our defensive ends to do a lot," Mitchell said. "It is easy to play nose tackle because we do a lot of things with them, but it is simple."

"I've got great teachers, especially with Hoke and Big Hamp. With those guys teaching me, I'll be able to adjust to anything.
I'll just have to be able to put more weight on...not to say I'm going to develop as much as Casey, but I'll probably be a little quicker. Maybe on passing downs, I can come in and aid them a little bit."

The Steelers signed three more draft choices today, including their third overall pick, wide receiver Mike Wallace.

Wallace along with defensive lineman Sonny Harris and center A.Q. Shipley all came to terms on three-year contracts.

Each will receive annual minimum salaries of $310,000 in 2009, $395,000 in 2010 and $480,000 in 2011. In addition, Wallace received a signing bonus of $555,000, Harris one of $64,000 and Shipley, a Moon native, one for $42,000.

Ben Roethlisberger shot an 81 at Bethpage on that great idea for the pre-Open show on NBC, the Roethlisberger-Michael Jordan-Justin Timberlake round of golf. And I looked over the scores for the first three rounds. Noticed touring pros Jeff Brehaut and David Horsey also shot 81s, and Rocco Mediate, last summer's story of the year on the tour, shot a 79. And after walking that course and seeing the acres of sand and long meadows of the deep grass, and seeing the ridiculously long holes like the 525-yard PAR FOUR seventh (with a dogleg, no less), I have to say I'm fairly impressed with young number seven's game.

da Rotoworld:

Lions MLB Larry Foote is only expected to be a two-down player in Detroit.
He came out on passing downs in favor of Lawrence Timmons in Pittsburgh, and Detroit has DeAndre Levy and Jordon Dizon capable of replacing him in the nickel package. Foote could get 100 tackles, but is a weak big-play bet.

Complimenti Larry, bella mossa  :polliceverso:

http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/ di Dale Lolley

My sources tell me that the Steelers are continuing talks with some of their players who will be free agents at the conclusion of the 2009 season, most notably offensive tackle Max Starks and tight end Heath Miller.
The Steelers are hopeful their can get something done with both players by the first couple of weeks of August at the latest
.
