The 2009 draft started on July 7th for the Batteries, with the 2nd round, and that date is set to be remembered as D day in the New York franchise history.
No less than 5 defensemen were selected by the Stanleit Cup Champions:

PICK 17 - New York Batteries (from San Jose) Oliver Ekman-Larsson

PICK 21 - New York Batteries (from Philadelphia) Maxim Goncharov

PICK 25 - New York Batteries (from Tampa Bay) John Carlson

PICK 32 - New York Batteries Kevin Shattenkirk

PICK 38 - New York Batteries (from Ontario) David Rundblad

"We really wanted to improve our transition game and add some physical presence to our defensive corp, now we feel we are set for a long time on the blueline; Gonchar's contract is set to expire at the end of next season and we still don't know if he'll go back to Russia or not, but after this draft we are confident offense from the blueline won't be missed whatever he decides."

In the days leading to the draft the Batteries also acquired Dan Boyle from Denver (rumours are Bieksa paid for a subpar playoff campaign that left the N.Y. management questioning his clutchness), GM Bure had this to say: "we feel like we got probably the top offensive defenseman in the league along with Gonchar.. i mean, unless you consider Green to be a defenseman"

"we have to respect Teemu's decision..
i mean, he got his Stanleit, he is 39, and this was his last chance to get a faaaat contract.. so i guess the fact he went for the money and not for the wins makes sense for him this time around.. we hope he will enjoy his paycheck."

Mah, il Milan senza Kakà pareggia a stento in casa del Livorno e piglia 4 pere nel derby....
Vedremo se anche noi avremo gli stessi ottimi risultati senza Teemu :D

Capisco che a chi paga Fats Sundin 5M l'anno i 5.5 richiesti da Teemu possano sembrare pochi, ma non ci andava di ritrovarci a ridosso del cap (come qualcun altro

) per uno che va x i 40 anni e che presumibilmente si concentrerà su olimpiadi e playoff..

Ad ogni modo, cambiare discorso tirando in ballo il Milan non funziona.
