A quanto pare il licenziamento di Sheffield ha dato vita a serie ripercussioni nel rapporto squadre-giocatori.

"The Major League Baseball Players Association has declared that from now onwards they are on strike. The consequence of this decision, announced shortly after the Detroit Tigers released veteran OF Gary Sheffield, will be the immediate stoppage of work by the players, that will likely result in the season to be called-off. We will provide you more details as the situation gets clearer. This is surely a low-blow for baseball fans, as they were dreaming the start of a new season in just a few days.
