PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets ace Johan Santana was relieved to get his long-awaited spring debut done with.
Held back because of elbow tightness for two weeks, Santana gave up four hits and three runs, including a homer to Dan Uggla, in 2 2/3 innings against the Florida Marlins on Thursday night. He struck out two and hit a batter in his first game action since having offseason knee surgery.
"The first time being in a real game situation, I felt pretty good," Santana said. "I was able to get everything going right away and throw all my pitches. It was a good sign."
"It's just I had a little setback," Santana said. "I worked out and did all the treatment I was supposed to do and got back on track. I knew all along I was fine. It was just a matter of time, getting the game situations and facing hitters, and tonight was the time."

Per quanto riguarda lo spot #5 ho già espresso la mia opinione, secondo me, almeno per l'inizio della stagione, sarà occupato da Hernandez, poi si vedrà.
Prima stavo leggendo su newsday.com che Pedro voleva un contratto annuale tra i 5 e gli 8 milioni di dollari. Decisamente troppo per un pretendente al quinto posto in rotazione.

Qualcuno ha visto in azione Santana contro i Marlins? Io ho comunque notato che Johan è in buona forma e tutto sommato ha fatto abbastanza bene per essere la sua prima apparizione...mi sembrava sicuro sul monte e senza particolari problemi al ginocchio...per quanto riguarda lo spot del quinto partente, sinceramente Garcia e Redding mi fanno letteralmente paura...spero sia affidato a Hernandez o Niese...io farei partire il giovane Jon subito come 5° come è stato fatto l'anno scorso con Pelfrey...ho molta fiducia che magari si possa ripetere l'exploit che ha fatto Mike l'anno scorso...

C'è da dire che Pelfrey ha fatto un 2007 da panico : 5.57 di ERA e 76 di ERA+....
E' stato necessario dargli una fiducia incredibile. Erano un pianto le sue partite iniziali...
Per Santana: i report sono tutti positivi. Erano in programma o 3 inning oppure 45 lanci. Ne ha fatti 47 con un buon primo inning. Insomma sembrerebbe che tutto porti a delle notizie positive. Continuiamo a sperare che sia tutto ok!

Su Perez non ho voluto infierire, mi sono sentito buono. Ciò non toglie che sia stato un contratto troppo oneroso, considerando il fatto che questo mercato è stato condotto in regime di crisi... Insomma, dai a K-Rod quasi degli spiccioli se paragonati a quanto avrebbe potuto chiedere e poi ti sveni per un comprimario?

Garcia's spring ERA actually fell from 20.25 to 14.50. That's still better than Tim Redding's 40.50 and worse than Jon Niese's 9.00. Only Livan Hernandez has been passable; the veteran righthander will bring his 4.70 ERA to the mound Saturday as the second pitcher against the Nationals.

The former Nationals pitcher underwent offseason foot surgery before the Mets signed him in January. He was delayed earlier this spring by shoulder stiffness, but said he is now experiencing a different kind of ache.
