Re: Boston Red Sox

Re: Boston Red Sox
Ieri bene Lin e Chiang tutto sommato.

Re: Boston Red Sox
Lester signs five-year, $30 million extension with Sox
Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester has agreed to terms with the club on a five-year, $30 million deal with a $13 million club option for 2014. The 25-year-old Lester went 16-6 with a 3.21 ERA last year.
MERAVIGLIOSO.

Re: Boston Red Sox

Mah, staranno bene a Boston, in tutti i sensi.
Tim Wakefield resterà a Boston a fine carriera.
Earlier this spring, however, Lester made it clear that he would welcome a long-term deal, even if it meant sacrificing some income over the long haul. Obviously, the cancer survivor (the first draft pick of the Red Sox under the current ownership group) has experienced a great deal with the Red Sox organization, and he would like to remain with the club for his career.
“I don’t see myself playing elsewhere … I’d love to stay here for the rest of my career if I can,” Lester said a couple weeks ago. “If the topic comes up, we’re definitely going to sit there and listen and try to get something done. I’d love to be here for a very long time and have that security. When it comes up, hopefully we can get something done and be set.”
“Both sides win,” Lester said of a long-term deal. “The young guys get money that’s going to set their families for the rest of their lives. They get the security. They know where they’re going to be at.
“It’s nice to see (other members of the Sox get long-term deals). It’s probably nice for a lot of these other younger guys to see that the Red Sox care that much about their young guys to lock ‘em up. I think it’s good on both sides. They’re not spending free-agent money to get other guys. These guys are taking the right discounts and the Red Sox are giving them the right amount to be here for a long time.”
Notizia per ora confermata solo da yahoo.
Che poi...
The deal is contingent on Lester passing a physical Tuesday. The impending deal is the largest given to a pitcher with around two years of service time, doubling the four-year, $15 million deal Cleveland’s Fausto Carmona signed at the beginning of last season. If the Red Sox exercise the option, they will have kept Lester off the free-agent market for two years.
The rare occurence of the expected.

Re: Boston Red Sox
Papelbon ci va leggero :lol2:
Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon compared former teammate Manny Ramirez to cancer, saying Boston made the right decision when it traded the slugging left fielder to the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer.
“He was on a different train! And you saw what happened with that. We got rid of him, and we moved on without him,” Papelbon was quoted in the April issue of Esquire. The story was posted on the magazine’s Web site Thursday.
“So Manny was tough for us,” Papelbon added. “You have somebody like him, you know at any point in the ballgame, he can dictate the outcome of the game. And for him not to be on the same page as the rest of the team was a killer, man! It just takes one guy to bring an entire team down, and that’s exactly what was happening.”
“Once we saw that, we weren’t afraid to get rid of him. It’s like cancer. That’s what he was. Cancer. He had to go. It sucked, but that was the only scenario that was going to work. That was it for us. And after, you could feel it in the air in the clubhouse. We got Jason Bay—Johnny Ballgame, plays the game right, plays through broken knees, runs out every ground ball—and it was like a breath of fresh air, man! Awesome! No question.”
Ramirez was sent to Los Angeles on Aug. 31 as part of a three-team trade in which Boston received Bay from Pittsburgh. Ramirez became a free agent after the season, then agreed last week to a $45 million, two-year deal with the Dodgers.
