Re: Curiosità Around The League - Deluxe Edition -
NEW YORK (TICKER) —The three-year-old son of New York Knicks center Eddy Curry witnessed the murders of his mother and sister in Chicago, according to a published report on Saturday.
Citing authorities, the New York Daily News reported that Nova Henry, 24, and her nine-month-old daughter, Ava, were found shot to death at about 6 p.m. Central Time. The discovery was made by Henry’s mother, whose daughter was a former girlfriend of the center.
The newspaper also reported that Curry’s son was found unharmed inside the apartment on the South Side of Chicago. In the aftermath of the incident, the Daily News said Curry was “despondent.”
According to Chicago police officer Amina Greer, the report said that the killer is a known acquaintance. She would not give the newspaper further details except to say that the case still is under investigation.
Curry was made aware of the slayings after the Knicks’ 116-110 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday and was described as “distraught,” according to the Daily News.
The newspaper reported that Henry had claimed that the murdered nine-month-old child was Curry’s, but the burly center adamantly denied it. Autopsies reportedly are set to take place on Sunday.
The newspaper said that Curry traveled back to New York with the team Saturday night, and it is unknown if he will head to Chicago.
It was the latest bizarre event surrounding Curry, who was slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit by his former driver and personal employee earlier this month.
David Kuchinsky also alleged racial discrimination, saying that the 6-11 Curry hurled racial and ethnic slurs at him.
Kuchinsky said he was addressed by Curry as “cracker”, “white slave”, “white devil” and “grandmaster of the KKK,” according to multiples report.
In 2007, Curry and his wife were tied up and robbed at their Chicago mansion at gunpoint by three burglars.
Curry, who is married and has four children with his wife, has played just one game this season after missing the first 35 with a right knee injury.
The 26-year-old was the fourth overall selection in the 2001 draft out of high school in Illinois and has been a disappointment so far in his eight-year NBA career. He has averaged just 13.5 points and 5.4 rebounds despite being tabbed as one of the next dominant centers upon his arrival in the league.
In fact, former team president Isiah Thomas mortgaged much of New York’s future in a trade with the Chicago Bulls for Curry, who joined the team in 2005-06 despite a heart ailment that left his health in doubt. Despite the ominous beginning, Curry excelled in his first season with the Knicks.
That season, respected former New York coach Larry Brown called Curry the cornerstone of the franchise and a potential All-Star. The soft-spoken center then averaged career-highs with 19.5 points and 7.1 rebounds the next campaign under Thomas, who moved down from the front office to the bench.
Since, Curry’s role in New York has diminished. New coach Mike D’Antoni and team president Donnie Walsh reportedly intend to deal the 285-pound Curry, whose weight problems make him useless in D’Antoni’s fast-paced offense.
