Borowski DFA.
''I believe if guys hadn't gotten hurt — even with the offense struggling and the disappointing bullpen — we would still be in the hunt, though maybe not in first place,'' he said. ''Next year, I think we will be contenders, as well.''
Shapiro expects to alter the roster between now and April, but he does not believe improving the team's win-loss record rests primarily on acquiring outsiders.
''The most important thing is to get back our injured players,'' he said. ''Having those players return is bigger than anything we can do externally.''
Shapiro does not see a closer in the system to replace Borowski.
"We'll probably have to address that in the off-season," he said.
"Brian Slocum is out of options next year and we've got to find out about him," said Shapiro. "We have to see more of Edward Mujica. At sometime Asdrubal Cabrera will be back up. We've got to figure out what Ryan Garko is going to be. We need to get Jeremy Sowers to improve."
GM Mark Shapiro was asked how Marte factors into plans for next season.
"I'd like to think at some point an opportunity presents itself to give him regular at-bats," said Shapiro. "If not, it will be tough to factor him for next year."
When manager Eric Wedge was asked the same question, he said: "We still want everything to shake out before we make any decisions. Obviously, we have a lot going on right now."
Perhaps that means Casey Blake is getting traded
Sempre a riguardo di CC e Milwaukee:
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Thursday that the Indians have also been scouting third baseman Taylor Green at Class A Brevard County in Florida.
Milwaukee's Hunstville club is loaded with good-hitting position players, something the Indians lack in the big leagues and minors. Outfielders Matt LaPorta and Michael Brantley, shortstop Alcides Escobar, third baseman Mat Gamel and Angel Salome have drawn the interest of the Indians
