Moments before he was introduced to the New York media, Danilo Gallinari sat down for an exclusive discussion with NYKnicks.com, giving Knicks fans a chance to get to know a lot more about his off-court persona.

Question: First of all, welcome to New York and congratulations

Gallinari: Thank you very much. I am very excited.

Question: Knicks fans know what you have done on the court, but what kind of guy is Danilo Gallinari off of it?

Gallinari: I'm a good guy. I like to just be with my friends, and have a good relationship with everybody.

Question: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Gallinari: Just hang out with friends, play some cards and I like to watch films. I like to do a lot of simple things.

Question: How did you learn to speak English?

Gallinari: I just had good teachers in the schools. And I've had three or four years where I've played with American guys. We've talked more in English than Italian even though we were in Italy.

Question: How old were you when you learned it?

Gallinari: I was 11 or so. I learned my English in school. But you only write English, you don't really speak it then. So it was better then when I was 16 to start learning English by speaking English.

Question: When did you first start playing basketball?

Gallinari: When I was five years old.

Question: Did you play any other sports?

Gallinari: No, only basketball. Well, I did play some with friends, but really only basketball.

Question: What's your favorite food?

Gallinari: Italian foods (laughs)

Question: What kind?

Gallinari: Pasta, Pizza. … That's it (laughs).

Question: There are a lot of good places like that in New York.

Gallinari: Yeah, I know. I went with my Dad to a few places when we visited for the workout.

Question: What are your favorite parts of New York?

Gallinari: I didn't visit so much, but I think Fifth Avenue is nice. Times Square is just crazy. I will visit all over New York, but those are my favorite places.

Question:Do you know where you are going to live yet?

Gallinari: No, I still have to decide that.

Question: Does your family plan to come over with you?

Gallinari: No they all have to go back to Italy to work. But I think I am going to have some friends come over and stay with me. I don't have many, but I do have some close friends that will probably come over.

Question: You have worn No. 8 over in Italy, and now you are going to wear it for the Knicks. Why is that your number?

Gallinari: My birthday is August 8, 1988. 8/8/88. So eight is natural to me.

Question: Do you know anybody on the team?

Gallinari: Not personally, but I know them by watching them. I know the players. I watch them on Italian TV and I know the names. But I want to get more familiar with them and get to know them in the next few weeks in person. It will be better for me to be here and know them.

Question: Is there any specific Knicks player you are looking forward to playing with or meeting more than anyone else?

Gallinari: Honestly, I am just looking forward to playing for the Knicks. That is a dream come true for me, that I am a Knick. So I am excited to join all my teammates this year.

Question: What was the first thing (Donnie) Walsh and (Mike) D'Antoni said to you after you were picked?

Gallinari: That they are happy to have me here.

Question: Coach D'Antoni played in Italy with your dad. Do you remember watching them play?

Gallinari: I wasn't born when they played together, but my dad still played until I was four years old. I don't remember (my father) from watching him play the game in person, but I have some (video) cassettes, so I've seen them both play together.

Question: Are you excited to play in Madison Square Garden?

Gallinari: Yes. Very.

Question: Why?

Gallinari: Because it's just crazy. (laughs) It's a dream come true. I'm ready for the Knicks and I'm ready for Madison Square Garden. This is a dream come true.

Question: Finally, if you could say one thing to Knicks fans right now, what would it be?

Gallinari: I will play with my heart, and I will do everything I can every night for the team. I want to be a Knick for my whole career, and I will do whatever I can and will work hard to win.

Dagli all-star game?? R u kidding me??

I. Out of the league (category 1) & Barely in league/End of bench guy (2) – No games played (1) or played less than 100 minutes for the season or less than 10 minutes per game (2).
II. Solid bench player (3) & Top bench player/Marginal starter (4) – Played more than 100 minutes in the season, and more than 10, but less than 20 minutes per game (3) or more than 20 but less than 30 minutes per game, OR played 30 or more minutes per game but had a year 5 PER below 10 (4)
III. Solid starter (5) – Played 30 or more minutes per game and had a PER between 10 and 17
IV. Star: All-Star caliber player (6) & Superstar (top 10-15 player in the league) (7)- 30 or more minutes with a PER between 18 and 20 (6) or a PER of 21 or greater (7)
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Eig ... uide-2934/

Today’s NBA draft is a long-term investment, not a quick fix. Most teams who want immediate help from draft picks should probably trade them for NBA veterans who have proven value. Otherwise, settle in and watch your investment grow. Slowly.
nel seguito dell'articolo (http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Eig ... -Two--2937) altre cose interessanti.
I motivi?

"What don't you like about Gallinari?" I asked him when I saw him at Wimbledon on Thursday afternoon. "Because it sounds like the kid is a project," the guy said. "Only if you take somebody with the sixth pick in the draft, he shouldn't be a project, he should be somebody who should help you right away. "Plus," the guy said, "he doesn't play any defense, and if we're ever going to get good again in my lifetime, we're eventually going to have to play some defense, right? Or isn't D'Antoni going to do that with the Knicks, either?" Then he said: "I guess all I really want to know is if he helps us get LeBron in two years." So it begins, a fight that exists now only in the imagination of local basketball fans, the Fantasy Basketball fight the Knicks and Nets are supposed to have in 2010 when LeBron James is a free agent, as if they are the only two teams who are supposed to notice, or who are supposed to have the resources, to get LeBron out of Cleveland if he wants to go, and if he hasn't won a title by then."
