"Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada told the team he's actually 33, two years older than he's listed in the club's media guide and other baseball records after being shown a copy of his birth certificate by ESPN.

Saying he wanted to rid himself of a burden, Tejada approached general manager Ed Wade and asked to correct misinformation he gave the Oakland Athletics when he signed in 1993.

"I was a poor kid," Tejada said before the Astros finished a three-game series against the Phillies on Thursday. "I wanted to sign a professional contract, and that was the only way to do it. I didn't want or mean to do anything wrong. At the time, I was two years older than they thought."

Tejada was actually 19 when he signed out of poverty-stricken Bani, Dominican Republic. At the time, he says, a local coach encouraged him to say he was 17."

magari se mettessero il limite di punti segnati per inning... comunque era Borowski che sta cercando se stesso in monasteri buddisti ma finora non è riuscito a trovarsi... ancora con la divisa degli Indians è stato scambiato per un pitcher ed immediatamente fatto partire al posto del lanciatore nippo caduto malato :lol2:

Che fesseria.

Frank Thomas aveva una "vesting option" di rinnovo automatico per 10 milioni di dollari se avesse avuto circa 350 apparizioni al piatto quest'anno (ne ha avute circa 650 l'anno scorso, e con 1000 tra 2007 e 2008 la vesting option era garantita). I Jays ovviamente volevano risparmiare e gli hanno detto che sarebbe stato panchinaro (per non fargli accumulare le necessarie PA), lui si è infastidito e loro l'hanno direttamente cacciato, per evitare di trovarsi con un contrattone non voluto l'anno prossimo.
Lo ammettessero invece di dire che l'abbiano cacciato per lamentele farebbero una figura migliore. E' una barzelletta di organizzazione.

la stampa USA parla delle potenziali destinazioni di The Big Hurt: A's, Rays, Mariners... sicuramente a Oakland hanno un buon ricordo ma il buon Frank e le sue ginocchia hanno 2 anni in più, a Seattle c'è Vidro che non prende due lire (ed è switch hitter)... forse i Rays anche se il recente pick up di Dan Johnson sembrerebbe sconsigliarlo...
