Re: 49ers Faithful - In Gore We Trust
Outside linebacker Parys Haralson picked up a nice little $226,221 paycheck through the NFL's "performance-based pay" system, which rewards some of the league's lower-salaried players for playing time.

There will be some changes with the club's pass protection, which was a mess at times last season. According to an interview with new co-offensive line coach Chris Foerster on 49ers.com, he will be in charge of pass-blocking while incumbent George Warhop will oversee the blocking in the run game.
"The way coach (Mike) Martz has set it out for us as far as installation goes is there is a lead coach in the running game and a lead coach in the passing game," Foerster said. "George will be the lead guy in the run game and I'll be in charge of leading the protection. That has to be my area of expertise every Tuesday when we are putting in the game plan, so I'll need to know what the problems are in protections, which are good and what adjustments we might need to make."
-------------------------------------------------
Special Teams coach Al Everest was walking around with a shiny new piece of hardware Monday – a trophy he and assistant Jeff Rodgers received for winning Special Teams Coach of the Year from the Aguilar Kicking Academy. The academy sends ballots to every special teams coach in the NFL and Everest and his staff were the top vote getters.
And why not? Punter Andy Lee had a great 2007 season, finishing with a 41-yard net average, setting the record for punts inside the 20 yard line (42) and going to the Pro Bowl for the first time. Kicker Joe Nedney, meanwhile, was 17 of 19 on field goals and 22 of 22 on extra points.
In fact, the special teams as a whole had an excellent season. The only glaring red marks that come to mind are Allen Rossum’s kickoff return in Week 3 and Nedney’s slip-of-the-finger incident in Week 8. Oh, and they probably could have used a few more big returns, which is why they signed Rossum.
Rodgers, of course, is no longer with the 49ers having taken a job as Kansas State’s special teams coordinator. The 49ers have interviewed some candidates but have not yet settled on Rodgers’ replacement.

Re: 49ers Faithful - In Gore We Trust
Exibition schedule
Week 1 @ Oakland
Week 2 vs. Green Bay
Week 3 - Aug. 21 @ Chicago
Week 4 - Aug. 29 vs. San Diego
Grosse sorprese!
My first reaction when looking at the schedule is to see what road trips are on the horizon. Nothing like making that long trek to Oakland. Oh, well.
But -- wait -- there's another trip to Chicago.
Wow. The 49ers and Bears will be playing each other. It's only a preseason game, so what really can come of it? But the bad blood between the teams' front offices should be intense. Will the Bears be keeping an eye on Lance Briggs to make sure nobody from the 49ers talks to him.
If the Bears send Briggs out to midfield as a captain for the coin toss . . . and if a 49ers player has the audacity to shake his hand . . . will the Bears file tampering charges with the league office?

Botta di ottimismo di Maiocco:
Question: Matt, from a personal standpoint how well do you think the team will do on the field this year? Do you believe Alex will learn the system in time and that Martz can turn this offense around so that Nolan can punch his ticket to stay next year? Thanks!!! Haig, El Cerrito
INSTANT 49ERS: I will say this: A year ago, I thought everybody was going overboard with the expectations. I think there's a chance this season that the expectations will be so low that the 49ers could surprise some people.

Re: 49ers Faithful - In Gore We Trust
Il perché quasi tutti i giocatori NFL odiano il draft....:D
Question: I see you reported the 49ers play the Bears in the pre-season. Will the 49ers be extra filed up to win that game? Will there be some cheapshots on Briggs? Steve, Augusta, Maine
INSTANT 49ERS: I doubt the players on either side will be caught up in anything of that nature. Here's a dirty little secret of the NFL: If most players on current NFL rosters had their druthers, they would like to see their teams forfeit every draft pick. New players coming to a team means more competition, which means less job security for those players already on the team. Only the very top players for each team can get excited about the influx of new, young talent.
Jennings ha ancora gravi problemi familiari:
Question: What's the deal with Jonas Jennings? Big Jim, Reno
INSTANT 49ERS: Jennings is slated to start at right tackle, with Joe Staley moving to the left side. A difficult family situation is the reason he is spending a lot of time this offseason in Georgia. When he's not working out in Santa Clara, he is following a team-prescribed program at home. We'd like to wish Jonas and his family all the best.
Question: Seeing that Bruce Tollner is Brennan's agent, and our QB coach Ted Tollner has been training him. Do you see 9ers drafting him in the 6th or 7th round?? Kolohe, Location unknown
INSTANT 49ERS: I'm not 100-percent sure that Brennan will get drafted. Maybe they give him a look if he's available as an undrafted free agent. Brennan very well might end up on somebody's practice squad as a rookie. Right now, I don't see him cracking the top three of Smith, Hill and O'Sullivan. (Drew Olson is scheduled to go to camp as the No. 4 QB.)

Re: 49ers Faithful - In Gore We Trust
1. Marvin Harrison, Indianapolis Colts
Clements: "I think the way he runs routes separates him, and he has excellent hands. He is a sure-handed catcher. He has the speed. The numbers don't lie."
2. Randy Moss, New England Patriots
Clements: "He's been real consistent throughout his career."
3. Chad Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals
Clements: "Chad is very quick. He can catch the ball. He has good size. He runs good routes and he can go up and go get the ball."
4. Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers
Clements: "I like Hines Ward. He's not the biggest, he's not the fastest. Some guys are just blessed with the size and athletic ability. He just goes out there and he is just a hard-nosed receiver. Because of the style he plays, he does not get the credit as a receiver. He is totally opposite of what you think a receiver would be."
5. Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboys
Clements: "People may not like his personality, but when it comes time to play, he puts up the numbers. You can't argue against that. He definitely has the size. He is a big, strong receiver."
6. Chris Chambers, San Diego Chargers
Clements: "There are so many players in this league who get overlooked because they've been on losing teams. I feel he is definitely one of those guys. When he was in Miami, he was definitely their No. 1 receiver. We saw what he is capable of doing when he goes to a winning team. His pace doesn't stop. It picks up."
7. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
Clements: "He's a workhorse, he's a physical specimen and, unfortunately, he's been on a team that hasn't been winning too many games, so he has been one of those guys who has been overlooked as well. You put him on any other team that is winning and he'll definitely be recognized. He is definitely a stout receiver."
8. Torry Holt, St. Louis Rams
Clements: "When I think of him, I think of a track meet, a guy who can just run all day. He has excellent hands and runs good routes."
9. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
Clements: "He's explosive. He is a game-breaker."
10. Roy Williams, Detroit Lions
Clements: "He definitely has the size and the speed, good hands. It's just that he's been on a losing team as well. He is definitely a good, quality receiver."

Re: 49ers Faithful - In Gore We Trust

Re: 49ers Faithful - In Gore We Trust
Now that the Lance Briggs tampering affair has been put to bed, a couple of previously unreported facts have surfaced.
•The controversy is believed to have started when Briggs' agent Drew Rosenhaus asked the 49ers if they were interested in Briggs in the course of a normal agent-team discussion. Many discussions followed.
A league source said when the NFL asked Rosenhaus to testify on the matter, he refused.
• The Bears were upset because they were trying to use the Oct. 16 trade deadline as an incentive for Briggs to sign with them. But it became more difficult to sign Briggs when he had the 49ers blowing him kisses.
•The 49ers were docked a fifth-round draft pick and forced to trade third-round picks with the Bears (the Bears will now have the seventh pick in the round and the 49ers will have the 12th) mostly because the tampering occurred in the middle of the season.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is said to have been frosted because the covert discussions occurred at a time when games could have been affected.
•An NFL source said the 49ers' punishment probably would have been more severe and the Bears would have received more if Briggs had not re-signed with the Bears in the off-season.
•The 49ers still were interested in Briggs as a free agent in February. Coach Mike Nolan said defensive end was a bigger priority, so the team signed Justin Smith instead of going after Briggs. However, Nolan also said if the Bears had not signed Briggs on March 3, it is likely the 49ers would have pursued him the following week.

All, that is, except for Jonas Jennings. While the rest of the team has been taking part in the 49ers’ conditioning program in Santa Clara, Jennings has been home in Georgia tending to his ailing mother. Jennings is very close to his mom and he was obviously affected when friend and teammate Frank Gore lost his mother last season. Jennings was one of the players who accompanied Gore to Liz Gore’s funeral in September. Jennings is a fiercely private person and has chosen not to share his family issues. We do know, however, that his mother’s health was one of the reasons Jennings briefly left the team in October. Actually, the Jennings family suffered a double whammy – his niece was involved in a car accident around the same time.

The 49ers still were interested in Briggs as a free agent in February. Coach Mike Nolan said defensive end was a bigger priority, so the team signed Justin Smith instead of going after Briggs. However, Nolan also said if the Bears had not signed Briggs on March 3, it is likely the 49ers would have pursued him the following week.
