Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos S John Lynch will return to the team for 2008. He signed a one=year contract with the Broncos Friday, Feb. 29. He will take a pay cut to say with the team.

Had Pat Bowlen not gone out for a well-timed late dinner Thursday night, John Lynch would have been finished as a Bronco safety.

"I had gone as far as typing up a statement saying goodbye to everyone," Lynch said. "I had made a decision that I was going to move on. I had actually called Mr. Bowlen to say thank you for everything the last four years."

Bowlen didn't answer. He was out to dinner. When the Broncos' owner later returned the call, Lynch had collapsed from the disappointing and emotionally draining negotiations and was asleep by the 9 o'clock hour.

"I slept right through my phone ringing," Lynch said. "Had I answered the phone, I would have told him, 'Thanks for the four years here, but I'm going to free agency.' "

Given an accidental chance to sleep on his decision, Lynch awoke feeling stressed. Moving on didn't seem right. Personal feelings stirred into a few more personal conversations Friday morning and afternoon with Bowlen and coach Mike Shanahan.

By 6 p.m. Friday, Lynch swallowed the insult of a pay cut in exchange for a chance to play a fifth, and mostly likely final, season with the Broncos.

The Broncos did increase their offer slightly Friday, but ultimately the agreement was reached because, regardless of cost, Lynch wanted to stay. Will this be Lynch's final season?

"I've learned you can't put a timetable on things," Lynch said. "It's likely my last year but I'm not going to say that definitively."

What Lynch fans do know definitely is that it's a good thing Bowlen didn't order takeout Thursday night.

partenza di mercato molto in sordina...
abbiamo perso l'opporunita' di frimare 3 giocatori che ci interesavano e servivano come il pane e che le altre squadre non hanno pagato tantissimo
ROGERS,JANKINS E JASON FERGUSON TRADDATI IN ALTRE squadre per scelte non altissime e che a noi ci servivano
2 lb importanti di cui uno free agente (micthell kawika ) e vilma persi...
per ora 2 obiettivi primari rinforza i dt e i lb andati  persi
ottimi giocatori che non costavano cari in fatto di trade
poi rinnoviamo il contratto ad un giovcatore che onestamente avra' un grande cuore ma ormai il meglio lo ha dato e andiamo ad intervistare un'altra sf veterana...32 anni come night...(un po' come il milan se non son vecchi non li vogliamo...

The Broncos were hosting Seattle linebacker Niko Koutouvides on Saturday and were hoping to sign him. The two sides were talking Saturday night.

Koutouvides, who visited Tampa Bay on Friday, is a special-teams ace and is a prospect at middle linebacker. If he were to sign in Denver, it would give the team an option to move D.J. Williams to weakside linebacker. Williams moved from strongside to the middle last year. With Ian Gold being cut Friday, Denver has options at linebacker. Jamie Winborn, Nate Webster and perhaps a draft pick will be in the mix as well.

Saturday, in their first out-of-house agreement in free agency, the Broncos came to terms with Colbert on a three-year deal. It is worth $7.2 million with $2.5 million to sign and is expected to be signed soon. Colbert will now be in the mix to start opposite blossoming star Brandon Marshall, who had 102 catches in his first full season as a starter. Colbert will compete with Brandon Stokley for the No. 2 job.
