The Steelers today released three veteran players: tight end Jerame Tuman, linebacker Clint Kriewaldt and cornerback and kick returner Allen Rossum.

Clint Kriewaldt is entering the last year of his contract. He will not be extended. He is a special team’s specialist, on a team with poor special teams. I could see the Steelers cutting Kriewaldt and find a younger player to play special teams. If Kriewaldt is cut, he will count $266,667 of dead money towards the 2008 salary cap.
Il risparmio qui si aggira intorno ai 730mila.
If Rossum is cut, he will not have any dead money.

Insomma se i conti sono esatti abbiamo recuperato poco più di 2,5 mil $; il che ci riporta alla situazione iniziale di 18mil sotto il cap...bisogna poi sottrarre il salario 2008 di Travis Kirschke: i termini del suo nuovo contratto non sono ancora stati resi noti; senza tener conto della transition tag per Starks...ed in effetti è giusto così, perchè è stata fatta semplicemente un'offerta che il giocatore ancora non ha sottoscritto e che permette agli Steelers di pareggiare eventuali altre offerte che dovessero arrivare all'apertura della free agency.
Io dico che, anche al netto del contrattone di Ben che arriverà presto
, c'è lo spazio per un buon free agent; vi faccio due nomi: Jeff Faine e Justin Smith, in ordine di preferenza. Tra l'altro ci sarebbe qualche altro ramo secco da tagliare: uno tra il Cedro e Willie Reid ed eventualmente Marvel Smith.
