Apriamo il topic 2008 dei Chicago Bears sperando che i (pochi) tifosi non restino latitanti fino ad agosto. Abbiamo già detto tutto sul topic vecchio, problemi e soluzioni (probabili), per cui andiamo a vedere come si muoverà la società da qua a settembre.

Operati Brian Urlacher (al collo, dicono nulla di che, ma ormai la salute del ragazzone preoccupa assai) e Tommie Harris (ginocchio sinistro, intervento già stabilito nel novembre scorso).

Tra poco ci stabiliranno i tag, scontato che Lance Briggs verrà lasciato andare vedremo come si muoverà la situazione verso Bernard Berrian.

Al draft servirà il Jerry Angelo delle migliori occasioni, deve dimostrare che il contratto strappato un anno fa è stato ben speso. Di solito canna il primo giro, abbiamo la 14, se sta su un OT, ruolo tra l'altro piuttosto profondo quest'anno mi pare, non sbaglia. La sua mania di andare, al primo giro sul migliore in circolazione invece che sul team need, è stata spesso la scelta meno azzeccata. Anche due scelte al terzo giro, fanno 4 in tre round, il che dà buone possibilità di muoversi bene già prima del fatidico quarto. Vediamo se la free agency, intanto, porta consigli, purtroppo i troppi infortuni spingeranno a rivedere alcune cose che, fino a un anno fa, sembravano scontate.

Non credo ne prenderanno in FA, l'unico potrebbe essere McNabb se lasciasse Phila. Diversamente si lavorerà per dare forza alla O-line ridando vigore al gioco di corse e come QB si terrebbe quello che si ha per un altro anno. Unica cosa è capire cosa farà Grossman. Si dice che accetterà un ingaggio bassino (e vorrei vedere), quindi i Bears potrebbero tagliare Griese e scegliere qualcosa al draft, magari al secondo giro. Io, personalmente, sceglierei al draft, non rifirmerei Grossman e partirei a settembre con Orton titolare tenendo Griese. Credo costerebbe meno in termini di cap "inutile".

Sicuro. Ma resto dell'idea che se la linea fosse davvero rinforzata alzando la media corse, anche del solo Benson, di una 1 yard a portata, il trio Benson-Peterson-Wolfe non sarebbe da cestinare così presto.

Non lo so, lo guarderemo meglio quando si saprà di più delle squadre. La division dei Colts è scomoda, la stessa Nfc North dà segni di vita non piccoli. Quest'anno Chicago si è giocata troppe partite sull'episodio e, spesso, questi sono stati sfavorevoli, per cui aspettiamo. Delle due squadre "jolly", poi, non c'è da sottovalutare nulla. I Rams dubito faranno un'altra stagione così pessima, gli Eagles... beh, sono gli Eagles.

The Chicago Bears aren't about to reveal the extent of Brian Urlacher's neck injury until, oh, maybe the day before training camp starts in late July.

But if the team's attitude toward free-agent-to-be Lance Briggs changes in the next three weeks, that will be a clear indication that Bears officials are worried about Urlacher's future.

While sources with the Bears say it doesn't appear that the injury or the surgery on Urlacher's neck is career threatening, team officials are not commenting or providing details about the type of surgery or when and where it was performed.

The Bears have been resigned to letting Briggs leave since he declined their six-year $30 million offer nearly two years ago. But they will be forced to change their tune if Urlacher's neck injury, which required recent surgery, is considered career threatening.

Letting a three-time Pro Bowl player like Briggs walk when you have a healthy six-time Pro Bowler in Urlacher to anchor the defense is a business decision the Bears felt they could afford to make. But going into next season without Briggs and with Urlacher's health tenuous could undermine the team's chances of returning to the playoffs and the Super Bowl, which Bears management and coaches still consider a very real possibility.

Urlacher has been the face of the Bears since shortly after he was drafted in the first round in 2000, so Briggs has always been considered second fiddle. Since being selected in the third round in 2003, however, Briggs has played a pretty mean tune, almost matching Urlacher tackle for tackle the past four years.

This latest neck injury, even if it isn't a serious problem yet, is the latest and best indicator yet that Briggs might be a better long-term asset for the Bears than Urlacher.

Briggs, who has missed just two games in five years, is only 27. Urlacher has been extremely durable too, missing just seven games in eight years. He will turn 30 before training camp begins, however, and his play suffered in several games this past season when he was hindered by an arthritic back, which isn't going to get any better.

That doesn't mean Urlacher isn't still an exceptional player - he is. Urlacher was more effective in the final few weeks of this past season than Briggs, and he deserved another trip to the Pro Bowl as much as Briggs. But the Bears need an insurance policy if Urlacher's play slips or he misses significant time because of injuries.

If Briggs leaves, the Bears will have no depth at linebacker. Even with him, they don't have much in reserve.

For more than a year, almost no one believed there was any chance of Briggs re-signing with the Bears, but all along general manager Jerry Angelo has gone out of his way not to close the door on that slim possibility.

Now it's time to swing that door wide open and welcome Briggs back to Halas Hall.

That way they're protected if Urlacher's injury is more serious than believed. If not, they keep two of the NFL's best linebackers together for a few more years, and what's wrong with that?

Come ho detto nel topic di OS secondo me, sottolineo secondo me, puntano a riprendere indietro Booker e tenere un solo veterano. Su Berrian ancora nulla, Angelo ha detto di non aver ancora parlato col giocatore a proposito di eventuali tag.

Io Moose lo avrei tenuto, anche se ovviamente non come titolare.

Tra l'altro Angelo ha rifiutato di esercitare l'opzione per tenere Darwin Walker, quindi anche la linea difensiva avrà bisogno di uomini, anche perché di Dvoracek che si sa, ad esempio?

La scorsa off season fu piena di errori e sottovalutazioni (anche l'addio a Chris Harris non mi piacque molto, ma non potevo prevedere una stagione del genere), questa a occhio non è iniziata benissimo. Secondo Scout.com i Bears tenteranno comunque di avvicinare un quarto QB già prima del draft, probabile che in estate si voglia andare con più materiale possibile da analizzare (e questo sottintende, per ora, un rinnovo a Grossman).

Questo avvio mi lascia supporre che la prima scelta sarà un OT, anche se io attendo pure la promozione delle due guardie che abbiamo in PS.
