7 sacks allowed, 100 yds di penalità (come al solito una più stupida dell'altra), un punt return concesso nell'OT (Sepulveda che cazzo aveva calciato poi?) ed ecco che arriva una sanguinosa sconfitta.

C'è proprio poco da dire e da recriminare, con una OLine del genere non andiamo proprio da nessuna parte. Come domenica scorsa praticamente non giochiamo il primo quarto (19 yds di total offense), non si sa per quale astruso motivo, poi ci riprendiamo abbastanza bene ma non riusciamo mai a stabilizzare il gioco di corsa (Parker non mi sta piacendo per niente, oggi ha corso meglio Davenport...) e a Ben non riesce l'ennesimo miracolo. Ad un certo punto sembrava di vedere la fotocopia della parita con i Cardinals...

Mi girano proprio i coglioni, i Jets sono una squadra mediocre, avevano la peggior difesa sulle corse della Lega e non siamo riusciti a correre, mai! La OL sta diventando un problema sempre più serio, bisogna fare qualcosa, ma cosa? Mahan è veramente scandaloso.

Si chiude anche la striscia del RB avversario sotto le 100 yds (ma questo è un problema secondario), la difesa ha comunque fatto il suo, peccato essersi fatti trovare impreparati su quel primo big play per Coles, per il resto non ha giocato male (non come al solito contro lo corse ma poi è stata ottima sui passaggi). Un piccolo appunto va comunque fatto sul drive finale che ha portato al FG del pareggio, hanno fatto un paio di errori (di letture e di placcaggi) abbastanza grossolani.

Ancora una grande partita di Holmes che piano piano sta diventando il target principale per Ben, peccato averlo perso durante la gara, non dovrebbe comunque essere niente di grave, speriamo in bene.

Ero convinto che non sarebbe stata una passeggiata, i Jets non mi ispiravano molta sicurezza ma sinceramente non pensavo potessimo avere tutti questi problemi (cioè dai, venivano da 6 sconfitte in fila), sono un pò perplesso...

Quelle merde dei Ravens non sono riusciti a battere Cleveland che quindi si rifa sotto nella Division (anche se comunque abbiamo il tiebreaking dalla nostra parte). Non dico che dobbiamo iniziare a preoccuparci perchè sono e rimangono i Browns ma hanno forse il calendario più facile di tutta la Lega da qui alla fine...

Noi si torna in campo lunedì sera, torna a casa JP, cerchiamo di non fare cazzate pure con i Dolphins. Dopo di che ci sarà lo stretch decisivo della stagione: vs Cincinnati, at New England e vs Jacksonville, se giochiamo come oggi non oso immaginare come potrebbero andare a finire...

Non ho visto la partita e mi sono dovuto incazzare davanti a un fottuto play-by-play.
Leggevo dei sack come se piovesse, ma non sapevo con chi prendermela: bestemmiavo in maniera impersonale :sbadat:...non è stata una bella serata .

Dire che avevo delle brutte sensazioni alla vigilia serve a poco.
Questa partita doveva essere vinta da Willie Parker...e non è come a Denver che ci siamo volontariamente tenuti alla larga dal ground game; è proprio che il ragazzo non andava. Non avendola vista non so quanto per demerito suo e quanto di una Oline che in un'altra fase del gioco ha fatto disastri.
Tomlin dichiarò qualche tempo fa che avrebbe "usato" FWP fino a che le forze l'avrebbero sorretto; ecco magari è arrivato il momento di pensare ad un impiego più oculato, coinvolgendo maggiormente Najeh, i FB e anche Gary Russell.

E però, sempre vista dal game center di Nfl.com...intercetto di Townsend con meno di tre minuti alla fine: basta con queste corse, che non vanno, aggrediamo la partita; sì lo so, son discorsi da tifoso...non è semplice lanciare quando su un terzo - magari anche qualcosina in più - dei down di passaggio ti arriva un animale addosso. Almeno provarci...caro Arians, non farmi i discorsetti sulla spread-offense, i tre TE, no huddle, etc. e poi in una situazione del genere ti comporti nè più nè meno che come un Cowher qualsiasi.
Iniziamo un drive in territorio avversario, dopo un turnover che a loro dovrebbe aver spezzato le gambe e non riusciamo a prendere un primo down; ma inventiamoci qualcosa, uno screen, una reverse, QUALCOSA!!! 

La verità è che questa squadra lontano dalle mura amiche si smarrisce...i difetti - che ci sono, inutile negarlo - diventano dei drammi esistenziali e arrivano sconfitte contro squadre che sulla carta sono almeno un paio di gradini sotto. I Ravens non ci fanno un favore nemmeno a pagarli :lol2: e così siamo costretti a guardarci le spalle; i Browns sono una squadra vera e hanno una schedule che sembra semplice. Sarà dura difendere il primato divisionale.

all'inizio della partita Ben ha sparato volutamente fuori la palla (2/3 volte) dopo aver evitato nugoli di difensori...questo ha portato alla morte dei nostri drive nella first half.

nel secondo tempo si doveva far succedere e ben ha cercato di far succedere qualcosa...da lì son arrivati l'INT e il fumble

lasciamo perdere sta partita di merda ora e concentriamoci sui tonni...notizie sulla caviglia di Santonio?

Siamo sicuri che attualmente abbiamo in campo i migliori Olinemen a roster e soprattutto schierati nella posizione in cui rendono di più?

Marvel Smith: originariamente è un RIGHT tackle; gioca a sinistra - in generale più che decentemente - perchè nel frattempo non s'è trovato niente di meglio
Alan Faneca: ok, non sarà più quello di due anni fa, ma il supporting cast è di livello inferiore e spesso deve tappare le falle provocate dagli altri
Sean Mahan: nella posizione è quasi un rookie, non me la sento di dargli addosso
Kendall Simmons: al solito, dopo un ottimo inizio di stagione inizia a impigrirsi ben oltre il consentito
Willie Colon: gioca tackle perchè Starks è stato impresentabile l'anno scorso; sostanzialmente è una guardia.

Per adesso dubito si possa stravolgere lo status quo, perchè sei nel mezzo della stagione e la linea tendi a toccarla il meno che puoi. Però i disastri Denver e New York, più le avvisaglie venute sostanzialmente in ogni singola partita autorizzano qualche pensiero:
1) l'unico cambio sensato adesso, dal punto di vista di chi allena - e che quindi non tende ad operare stravolgimenti - sarebbe Chris Kemoeatu per Simmons; l'aggravante è che Simmons è stato appena rifirmato.
Per l'anno prossimo:
2a) estendo Faneca...sposto Marvel a destra e Colon a RG; provo Simmons da centro e drafto un LEFT tackle, sperando di pescare il jolly
2b) Faneca va via...al draft prendo o una guardia (sostituto di Alan) o un centro (sposto Mahan a LG, oppure promuovo Kemoeatu); i tackle restano M. Smith e W. Colon

La 2a sarebbe la mia preferita.

Tornando all'immediato...il discorso sulla linea ha fatto un salto di qualità, in negativo.
Siamo partiti con "non sanno proteggere il loro qb" e siamo passati al "non si corre"...se succede contro i Ravens hai delle attenuanti, se succede coi Jets diventa un allarme che chiamandoti Steelers non puoi ignorare.

C'è poco da dire però ci provo..
Quando si incontra una squadra che sta facendo schifo non sempre è una passeggiata e così è successo.....
Il primo quarto è stato orribile,poi ci siamo ripresi sia in attacco sia in difesa nonostante un' OL scandalosa:Ben non può continuare a lanciare con 2-3 secondi di tempo,bisogna trovare una soluzione perchè in queste condizioni non si arriva da nessuna parte..
Speriamo che questa sconfitta ci serva come lezione,considerato anche che Lunedì andiamo a giocare contro una squadra che vuole a tutti costi evitare lo 0-16 quindi occhi aperti e vediamo di rifarci...

Per quanto riguarda i singoli ecco qualche commento sparso:

-Ben ha fatto quel che ha potuto,lanciare in quelle condizioni è difficilissimo..
-Parker è visibilmente in calo.
-Holmes è una garanzia.

E' una bella botta ragazzi e arriva in un momentaccio; però occorre anche dire che finora siamo una delle squadre meno colpite dagli infortuni. Ci sono franchigie letteralmente decimate...la prima che mi viene in mente ovviamente è Buffalo, che ha il roster pieno di ragazzi raccolti letteralmente per strada.

Magari serve a tirar fuori le palle; dopo i Jets serve una prova di carattere, il risultato ovviamente è  fondamentale, ma il mio desiderio per il Monday Night è quello di vedere una squadra che innanzi tutto onori se stessa, giocando in maniera fisica.

PITTSBURGH - Former Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter will make his return to Heinz Field Monday night when the Steelers host Miami.

But Porter's former teammates may not recognize the player wearing No. 55 for the Dolphins.

Not only is Porter making fewer big plays than at any time in his NFL career, he's not doing nearly as much talking on the field as he did during his eight seasons with the Steelers.

With the Dolphins off to an 0-10 start, Porter hasn't had much to yell about.

"I can't get out there talking all this mess," Porter told reporters in Miami. "You can't talk mess now. They'll just say, 'Look at the score.' That's kind of how it's been."

This type of return to Pittsburgh isn't what Porter envisioned when the NFL released its schedule in the spring.

At 7-3, the Steelers have moved on without Porter after releasing him in a salary cap-related move. Miami signed him to a five-year, $32-million contract that included a $12-million signing bonus in the hopes he would help bolster the team's pass rush.

But Porter hasn't fit well into Miami's 4-3 defensive scheme. He flourished in the Steelers' 3-4 alignment.

Porter is asked to drop into pass coverage more than he rushes the passer. And he's made just 39 tackles and 1.5 sacks this season, which pales in comparison to the 56 tackles, team-high 7.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and one interception James Harrison, his replacement in Pittsburgh, has recorded.

"I can only do what I'm asked to do," said Porter, who had 60 sacks in eight seasons in Pittsburgh. "The scheme I came from was totally different. Honest to say, I blitzed a lot. I did that a lot. That's not to say anything, we just run a different scheme out here. I'm learning to adapt to that and I've got to make the plays when I've got opportunities to make plays. If I've got an opportunity to make a play, I can leave it out there on the field. I've got to make it."

Making big plays is something Porter did as a starter with the Steelers. In fact, Porter was so well thought of that he was named to Pittsburgh's 75th Anniversary Team this season.

In Miami, Porter is one of the players being blamed for the Dolphins' winless season but he doesn't feel that is fair.

"(Everybody's saying) you were the big free agent coming to the game and the numbers are not there and it's like, man, we signed Joey Porter to this big deal, here he is, we're (winless) and he's made - what? - 11/2, 2 sacks all year," Porter said. "I mean, what is this? That's what the average fan or person is (thinking) looking at the team ..."

But Porter has commanded that kind of respect in the past from fans and players. They expect more big plays from him.

"He was just another brother who was going to go out there and fight for us," said cornerback Deshea Townsend. "That's all we ask for from our defense, everybody be as one, and he was one guy you knew you could count on every week no matter what the situation was; he was going to be there fighting."

Just don't expect Porter to be out there fighting with the Steelers Monday night. He was famous for that prior to a game at Cleveland in 2004, when he and Browns running back William Green were ejected for a pregame fight at the 50-yard line. The Steelers don't know what to expect from Porter.

"I have no idea. I was joking with Hines (Ward); I wonder if Joey will be talking because we're all friends," said Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "I don't know what's going to happen. It will be interesting."

Ben's big bucks chase

Ben Roethlisberger's reaction to Tony Romo's new contract in Dallas was "impressive."

"Tell him he's welcome, and I'm glad to help," Romo told a Dallas writer.

Romo signed for $67.5 million over six years. It won't be Romo's contract that will so much drive the negotiations for Roethlisberger's agent after this season, though. It's likely to be one that was signed two years ago.

Carson Palmer signed a six-year contract extension at the end of December 2005. All told, his nine-year contract was reported to be $118 million and was called at the time the biggest deal in the history of the NFL.

That is what Roethlisberger and agent Ryan Tollner will have their sights set on when they sit down to discuss a new contract early in 2008.

And why not? As long as things don't collapse, Roethlisberger will have turned in three impressive seasons out of his four in the NFL. It's likely he will add something that eluded him in his first three seasons -- a Pro Bowl berth. He's the second-leading passer, by rating, in the NFL only to likely league MVP Tom Brady.

Palmer had a Pro Bowl berth, but no Super Bowl ring and not nearly the kind of record Roethlisberger has accumulated in his first four seasons in the NFL.

Perhaps he was fortunate to land on a team such as the Steelers that had all the pieces in place.

But there's little doubt that Roethlisberger is a big reason they even reached Super Bowl XL and why they are 7-3 and back atop the AFC North today.

There will be many sticking points during contract negotiations, as there always are, but when the Steelers want their man, they get him.

Roethlisberger is signed through the 2009 season, but the contract extension will be consumated this year.

There is one thing the Steelers should insist on when they do this deal: No more motorcycle riding, with or without a helmet.

Steelers interested in WVU field surface for Heinz Field

The Steelers are investigating artificial surfaces and it appears they might install one at Heinz Field before the start of the 2008 season.

They acknowledged the surface on their field was not good enough when they covered it with new sod this weekend for tomorrow night's game. Now they are looking to take the next step and put something down permanently.

They have been particularly interested in the new surface West Virginia University has this year. WVU installed a new generation of Field Turf this summer called Duraspine at the cost of $901,152. The Steelers sent some of their people to WVU to take a look at the turf there.

The Steelers have practiced on a different version of Field Turf at their indoor facility since 2000, as has Pitt. The Panthers added an artificial turf called Sportexe on one of their outdoor practice fields next to the Steelers this year.

Pitt also has been urging the Steelers to install an artificial turf. Imagine trying to recruit quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs and showing them in November or December the kind of surface on which they will play their home games. It can only be a recruiting disadvantage.

"In partnering with Sportexe, we were able to make our outstanding practice facility even greater with the installation of a cutting-edge synthetic turf surface," said former Pitt athletic director Jeff Long at the time the new turf was installed.

If they're bragging about it helping their practices, imagine what an artificial turf can do for games!
