Oddio, ho visto le stats di S. Hill; in sei stagioni tra i pro non ha ancora effettuato un solo tentivo di passaggio... 
Che dire, speriamo che rientri Alex Smith anche se credo sia sbagliato pensare a lui come la panacea di tutti i mali; i problemi della squadra, o meglio dell'attacco, sappiamo tutti dove sono.

Ti dirò, all'inizio ti avrei potuto dare ragione che è solo una questione di chiamate, ma servirebbe solo a trovare la giustificazione più facile e, credo, meno veritiera. Sicuramente Hostler non è Turner è, al momento, il suo lavoro non è eccelso, ma la differenza, secondo me, la sta' facendo l'esecuzione dei giochi, con la maggior parte dei problemi che partono da una linea offensiva che sta rendendo molto al di sotto delle possibilità e di quello che ci si aspettava. Alla fine Tuner l'anno scorso si affidava soprattutto ai giochi di corsa, che però eseguivamo molto bene con una linea che risultava, in questo, molto buona, oggi questo non sta avvenendo e quindi Turner genio  e Hostler pippa, ma sarebbe solo un prendersi in giro a mio parere.

La disamina del gioco tanto discusso domenica da parte di Maiocco:

The 49ers were driving. They were at the Giants' 15-yard line early in the third quarter with an opportunity to make it a 19-14 game.

Then disaster struck. Sixteen seconds later, the Giants led 26-7 and the game was over.

Left tackle Jonas Jennings failed to block defensive end Osi Umenyiora. What was he thinking?!? Umenyiora is one of the top pass-rushers in the game. How could Jennings have made such a bad play?

Well, Jennings did not make a bad play, after all. He did exactly what he should've done. In fact, the offensive line did everything perfectly. It's an interesting play that deserves a closer look:

The 49ers lined up with three receivers at the bottom of the screen (left side) and Ashley Lelie is wide to the right. Frank Gore lines up as the only back behind quarterback Trent Dilfer.

The Giants are showing blitz. They have seven men at the line of scrimmage and the 49ers have their five offensive linemen to block them. Because it's supposed to be a three-step drop, the 49ers make a line call to secure the middle of the pocket. That means right tackle Joe Staley leaves Strahan unblocked to block down, and Jennings leaves Umenyiora unblocked to also help in the middle of the line.

With the pass going to the right side, Gore picked up Strahan and takes him down with a cut block. That should've given Dilfer enough room to get rid of the ball to Lelie with his designed three-step drop.

However, Dilfer does something that he said he watched on TiVo 400 times and kept him up until 4 a.m.

Dilfer took a five-step drop. Not only does that give Umenyiora more time to get to Dilfer, it also gives him a better angle to get back to Dilfer's launch point for the blind-side hit. He caused the fumble and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown.

Dilfer hesitated to throw the ball, and that proved disastrous. Perhaps, Dilfer was indecisive because of the way cornerback Sam Madison played Lelie.

Madison was on the line of scrimmage, giving the appearance he was going to play bump-and-run coverage against Lelie. If that's the case, Dilfer can get rid of the ball quickly and let Lelie run under it. However, just prior to the snap, Madison backed off a full 10 yards. That might have prompted Dilfer to try to hold the ball a little longer. Still, he should've thrown it on time.

"When a guy's off, typically you wait a little longer," Dilfer said of the cornerback. "There's no excuse. I'm guessing what happened when he got off, something inside me told me to hold it a little longer."

The play called in the huddle was pretty close to a perfect play for the Giants' all-out blitz.

"I had answers," Dilfer said. "The play had every answer you could possibly want. The offensive line executed the play to perfection. They squeezed down and got the most dangerous players. One guy failed to do his job, and that was me."

Nolan said as a defensive coordinator, he would've been frightened to see the 49ers send four receivers into the pattern.

"When (as a defensive coordinator) you've got a blitz going, you love to have everybody locked down in the house, so that you can just blitz them, because nobody's getting out for routes," Nolan said. "Well, we had it wide open, so there were a lot of options. But you've got to get rid of the ball."



In pratica, se fatto bene, così come era stato progettato, e visto anche l'atteggiamento difensivo dei Giants, era un gioco che poteva portare facilmente ad un TD dei 49ers ed invece per errori, letture sbagliate, un pizzico di casualità, ha portato al TD di Umenyora. Simbolo del fascino di questo sport: sembra semplice, banale, ma non lo è affatto, ci sono tante cose da valutare, tante decisioni da prendere in poco tempo, e poi devi comunque eseguirle bene perchè basta poco per mandare tutto all'aria. E' il football.


Intanto per quanto riguarda l'ipotizzato declassamento di Dilfer e la situazione infortunati si va' per il recupero dia di Smith che di Gore mentre Dilfer rimane il secondo QB:

Yesterday, when asked if Shaun Hill might see playing time in place of Dilfer (if Alex Smith is unable to play this week), Nolan answered: "You know, we haven't even had that meeting yet, that's a good question. I think we'll raise the question just in conversation, but I would not say that. It wouldn't be accurate right now to say that."

That didn't sound like Dilfer had definitively kept his spot ahead of Hill on the depth chart. Later, through a team spokesman, Nolan said that Dilfer had not been demoted. Dilfer, not Hill, will start on Sunday if Smith is held out, he said.

But Smith might very well make his return this week against the Saints. I think there's a better than 50-50 shot that Smith starts, but we'll know a lot more tomorrow when the 49ers have their first practice of the week to prepare for the Saints.

As for Gore, he was walking a lot better Monday evening when I saw him than earlier in the day. I'm not sure how much he'll practice during the week, but there is a good chance that he's able to play Sunday against the Saints.

Notizie in vista dellla partita di domenica coi Saints; ufficiale il ritorno di Smith, dovrebbe farcela anche Gore mentre sono doubtful Jennings e D-Jack.
Jennings mi ha stufato, si infortuna ogni tre per due e quando non è infortunati gioca male; sinceramente non sarei affatto sorpreso sné dispiaciuto se fosse tagliato al termine della stagione.
Se non dovesse farcela Jackson, Lelie sarebbe il titolare e finalmente dovrebbe vedere il campo anche Jason Hill.

bisogna chiedersi davvero bene cosa fare l'anno prossimo. io partirei da rifondare la OL. oggi è stata criminale, smith è stato colpito 2000 volte

Intanto Nedney si scusa per il gestaccio fatto al pubblico a causa dei "boo" per un suo Kickoff spedito Out of Bounds.
Da quel che capisco sembra abbia fatto il terzo dito (alla Vick ).
