Statement game. Distrutti i Seahawks, 21-0. :truzzo:

Post Game Quotes

Shaun Alexander

I always wondered what is the best defense that could face us and it is a good offense. I think that we had one drive in the third quarter. I remember stretching a lot and remembering I never stretch this much. It is what it is, Pittsburgh played real well.

REFEREE TEAM FROM SUPER BOWL XL

I just heard on the NFL network that the same team of Ref's from XL are going to be at Heinz Field on Sunday...That means it's a lock for a Steelers win!!

The NFL announced Wednesday that Leavy, who is concluding his 13th season as a game official, will head the seven-man crew of game officials selected to work the game between the Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The rest of the Super Bowl XL officiating crew will consist of umpire Garth DeFelice, linesman Mark Hittner, line judge Mark Perlman, field judge Steve Zimmer, side judge Tom Hill and back judge Bob Waggoner.

"Our mission is to keep the game within the Steeler's reach" said linesman Mark Hittner. "It's going to be a lot of fun helping the Steelers win again, the last time we did this, the Walrus (Mike Holmgren) almost burst an aneurysm by halftime. We feel like we can get it to pop this time."

"It's easy to call a holding penalty" says line judge Perlman "But we've been working overtime on developing more obscure calls, like the Darrell Jackson "Push-off" or offensive pass interference after a Seahawk TD."

"We like cheating for the Steelers." "What most people didn't realize back in 2005 was that the entire XL crew had lived in Pittsburgh during the seventies." "I don't know how we ended up being a crew for XL, or why we are being brought back for this game, I just know all the guys are happy as hell to give it another whirl."

"The bottom line is this; We knew the Steelers backed into Super Bowl XL, and they couldn't compete with an dominating NFC powerhouse. They needed some help, and we gave it to them."

"My penalty flag is actually a mini terrible towel." Admits Tom Hill. "I used it during Super Bowl XL because Myron Cope says the "magic" only works during the playoffs, but I'm thinking of using again Sunday, just to rub it in Holmgren's face a bit."

A Steelers fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Browns fan he
saw strutting down a Pittsburgh street in an obnoxious orange and
brown shirt. He would swerve his van as if to hit them, and then swerve
back just missing them.

One day, while driving along on the North Side, he saw a priest
walking along the street. He thought he would do a good deed, so he
pulled over and asked the priest, "Where are you going, Father?"

"I'm going to give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down
the road," replied the priest.

"Climb in, Father. I'll give you a lift!"

The priest climbed into the passenger seat, and they continued down
the road.

Suddenly, the driver saw a Browns fan walking down the road, and he
instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual, he swerved
back onto the road just in time. Even though he was certain that he had
missed the guy, he still heard a loud THUD.

Not knowing where the noise came from, he glanced in his mirrors but > stiiilllll didn't see anything.

He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the priest embarrassed and said,

"Sorry, Father, I almost hit that Browns fan!"

"That's OK," replied the priest, "I got him with the door."

:metal:

Ah tra l'altro

Cornerback Ike Taylor of the Pittsburgh Steelers is the Week 5 GMC Defensive Player of the Week. Taylor recorded five tackles (three solo) and one interception in the Steelers' 21-0 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Taylor’s second-quarter interception on the goal line stopped the Seahawks' best chance of scoring. Taylor was part of a defense that limited the Seahawks to only 144 total yards.

Rookie cornerback making tough job look easy
Friday, October 12, 2007
By Ray Fittipaldo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

For many rookies, the most difficult transition from college to the NFL is not matching up physically with the competition. It's learning a new system and comprehending more intricate schemes. One reason rookie cornerback William Gay, a fifth-round pick out of Louisville, has risen up the depth chart so quickly with the Steelers has been his ability to digest Dick LeBeau's defense.

"One thing I've noticed about him ever since he got here is how much of a student of the game he is," said starting cornerback Deshea Townsend, the elder statesman of the secondary. "That really impressed me a lot. He was able to come in here and get the concept of the defense down quickly.

"When you can learn the nickel and play the corner ... that's pretty tough to do in your first year. You usually just learn to play one position. But he was able to come in and learn the nickel pretty quick. That impressed me."

Gay surpassed veteran Ricardo Colclough on the depth chart and earned the job as the nickel cornerback in last week's 21-0 victory against Seattle. Gay played a big part in the shutout. He covered Deion Branch and Nate Burleson, two established NFL veterans, and did not allow any big plays.

"That shows how much confidence the coaches have in him, to put him in there in that situation against Seattle, a team with good receivers," safety Ryan Clark said. "He's doing well, man. The thing is he's picking up the defense, which can be a difficult scheme to pick up at times. He's really contributing."

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was impressed with what he saw from Gay in his first opportunity at extended playing time. Gay had already caught the coach's eye with his stellar play on special teams.

"I thought William Gay played well, particularly in the course of the kicking game," Tomlin said. "He's starting to prove that he's a very reliable guy in that area. But he's a very reliable guy on defense as well. He's shown maturity beyond his years. He put in a very solid performance."

Gay could be the No. 3 cornerback again next week at Denver if Bryant McFadden does not recover from his high ankle sprain. McFadden did not dress against Seattle.

Gay was surprised the Seahawks did not try to attack him more than they did. Quarterback Matt Hasselback barely threw his way.

"I think I did fairly well," said Gay, 5 feet 10, 190 pounds. "I went out there and did the assignments the coaches told me to do. I just went out on the field and did what I did in practice. It worked out."

Was he surprised that Mike Holmgren did not test him more?

"During the game I didn't think about it like that," he said. "I was just doing my job, covering my man. After we looked at film, Coach was surprised that they didn't come after me like he thought they would. He thought they would come after me on every third down, every time I was in there. I don't know what game plan they had. But different teams will see that and come after me. I just have to be ready to make plays."

The Steelers held Branch to two receptions for 14 yards before he left with an injury. Burleson had one reception for 7 yards. Gay is eagerly waiting for his number to be called again.

"It put a smile on my face when I knew I could get out there and cover some of the top names in the league," he said. "I just want to progress and continue to get better. Each week I have to prepare for anything. Coach always says, 'This is the NFL. You have to be prepared for anything.' Whatever happens next week, I'm ready to step up and be a part of the defense."

2004 Scouting Report

Ricardo Colclough is a tremendous natural athlete with decent size and tremendous physical tools. He doesn't have blazing speed, but he does have good speed and exceptional quickness. He gets out of his backpedal and up to full speed as fast as anyone in the draft and he closes quickly on the ball. He has exceptional hands and man coverage ability. He doesn't get beat deep often.
He is very physical with receivers and plays the run well... does a good job of wrapping up on tackles. He also has experience returning punts and kicks.

:disgusto: :disgusto: :disgusto:
