- The Giants have allowed only three runs in the 2012 World Series. The only other teams within any of the previous 25 World Series that permitted three-or-fewer runs over any three-game span were the 2001 Diamondbacks and 2004 Red Sox. Arizona gave up three runs to the Yankees over Games One through Three, and Boston surrendered three runs to the Cardinals, from Game Two to Game Four.
- The Giants' three starting pitchers in this World Series -- Barry Zito, Madison Bumgarner and Ryan Vogelsong -- have allowed one total run. That scored on an RBI-single by Miguel Cabrera off Zito in Game One.
- The only other National League team whose starters surrendered no more than one run over any three-game stretch of a single World Series was the 1905 Giants. Christy Mathewson threw a complete-game shutout against the Philadelphia Athletics in both Game Three and Game Five, while Joe McGinnity did the same in Game Four.
- From Elias: Giants batters struck out 12 times in the team's 2-0 win over the Tigers. San Francisco became only the second team in World Series history to win a game in which it scored two or fewer runs and totaled at least 12 strikeouts. The other was the 1972 Reds, who defeated the Athletics in Oakland, 1-0, despite 14 strikeouts by their hitters. Jack Billingham defeated Blue Moon Odom in that Game Three pitching duel, with the lone run scoring on an RBI-single by Cesar Geronimo.
- From Elias: The Giants have not trailed in 54 straight innings, tying the second-longest such streak in any single postseason in major-league history. The Red Sox were ahead or tied in 60 consecutive frames in 2004 and the Athletics were not behind for 54 innings in a row in 1989.
- TIGERS LOSE 6TH STRAIGHT WORLD SERIES GAME The Tigers have lost their last six World Series games (since the 2006 Series). It's the longest World Series losing streak for any team since the Cardinals lost six in a row from 1987 through 2004 and it ties the longest such streak in franchise history (six straight losses, 1907-1908).
- CABRERA REACHES BASE IN 23 STRAIGHT GAMES Miguel Cabrera has reached base safely (via hit, walk or hit-by-pitch) in 23 consecutive postseason games since he joined the Tigers. Carlos Beltran had a 24-game streak of that kind snapped in this year's NLDS, but Cabrera's streak is the longest for any American League player since the Orioles' Boog Powell reached base in 25 straight postseason games from 1966 to 1971.

Pensavo la stessa cosa ieri, prima di gara 4. Detroit ha beccato le 3 giornate più sbagliate per congelarsi, ed erano a livelli così bassi che in tanti avrebbero fatto festa con loro.

Faccio i piu' vivi complimenti a tutta l'organizzazione dei Giants che ha strameritato questo titolo, non solo per avere stradominato la serie contro i Tigers, ma per aver sovvertito pronostici che la vedevano sicura sconfitta anche prima della post season. Sfido chiunque a dire che avrebbe indicato San Francisco vincente, acnhe dopo la pausa per l'All Star game.
Per Detroit resta una mazzata psicologica, secondo me difficile da metabolizzare, per la seconda volta consecutiva arriva alle WS da un 4a0 (2006 docet) e ti becchi una lezione del genere.
Resta il grazie per la splendida stagione e la cavalcata alle finali, ma da tifoso, mi resta davvero l'amaro in bocca per come abbiamo 'lottato' vs i Giants.
Ripartiamo a testa bassa, tagliando alcuni free agents (Valverde, Young) rivedendo al ribasso alcuni contrattini proprio non da poco......e facendo anche un bel discorsetto al signor Leyland e soprattutto lasciando a casa il signor Lloyd Mcclendon.
Ancora complimenti a San Francisco, squadra per la quale nutro ben piu' che una simpatia.
- All series long, the Tigers struggled against pitches Giants pitchers threw in the strike zone. After hitting .365 on such pitches in the ALCS, the Tigers hit just .175 on in-zone in the World Series, including .059 (1 for 17) on pitches down the middle. Their batting average on pitches out of the zone dropped only slightly, from .148 to .130. Compared with the ALCS, they swung at a higher percentage of pitches in the strike zone and a lower percentage of pitches out of the strike zone.
- Including the postseason, Matt Cain has given up 27 HR this season. Of those, 4 have been hit the opposite way - including both HR he's given up tonight (through 6th inning).
- Delmon Young has 8 career postseason HR, all have come in the last 2 postseasons for the Tigers. His RBI also gives him 7 games this postseason with an RBI - tied for the most in a single postseason in Tigers history.
- Buster Posey: 2nd career World Series HR; also homered in Game 4 of 2010 World Series Posey had been slumping: 7-39 with 0 XBH and 10 K since Game 1 of NLCS prior to HR
- Tim Lincecum has essentially been dropped from the Giants' postseason rotation, making just one start in his 6 postseason appearances this season. But he's been an incredible weapon -- he's gone at least 2 innings in all 5 of his relief appearances and he's pitched on 2 days' rest twice and 3 days' rest once. It's often assumed that pitchers add some life to their fastball when they're able to air it out in shorter relief stints. But Lincecum has the same average fastball velocity. He's shown an improved changeup coming out of the bullpen, and he's done it by throwing it IN the strike zone more often.
- Sergio Romo is the 2nd pitcher to strike out the side in the final inning of a clinching game of a World Series. The other is the Yankees Joe Page in 1949.
- The Tigers erased an early 1-0 deficit before losing 4-3 in 10 innings to suffer a four-game sweep to the Giants. No team has come from behind in Game 4 to avoid a World Series sweep since the Reds against the Orioles in 1970.
- This was the 14th postseason series of Jim Leyland's managerial career, which had been the most by any manager who had never been swept in a postseason series. With the Tigers' loss in four games to the Giants, that distinction reverts to a former Tigers manager, Sparky Anderson (12).
- Game 4 was the first World Series game in which each league's batting champion hit a home run. In fact, Miguel Cabrera and Buster Posey are only the fourth batting champions to face each other in the Series, following Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner in 1909, Chick Hafey and Al Simmons in 1931, and Bobby Avila and Willie Mays in 1954. None of those pairs homered in the same World Series, let alone the same World Series game.
- Brandon Belt's second-inning RBI-triple was his first hit in a road game in the 2012 postseason and his first hit of the World Series. Coming into that at-bat, Belt was 0-for-18 with 12 strikeouts on the road this postseason and 0-for-10 in the World Series.
- Belt was the first player in major-league history to go 0-for-10 (or worse) over the first three games of a World Series in which his team took a three-games-to-none lead.
- Losing pitcher Phil Coke set an all-time World Series record by extending his strikeout streak to seven batters the first seven that he faced in the 2012 Series when he struck out the side in the top of the ninth. The previous record of six straight strikeouts was shared by three pitchers, who all did it in a single game: Hod Eller (1919), Moe Drabowsky (1966), and Todd Worrell (1985).
