Players role definition for 2012/2013

If you feel like expressing your feelings on your current players’ positions this is the proper thread to do it.
Each suggestion will be evaluated by the commission and, if accepted, the new role will be assigned on our site.
Check the current roles on our site and read the criteria below before posting anything!

Roles can be changed ONLY during the off-season till the start of September Free Agency. From that point till the end of playoffs they will be blocked.

Here the available roles combinations:
C
C,RW
C,LW
RW
RW,LW
LW
D,RW
D,LW
D
G

To suggest a role change follow this syntax:
PLAYER NAME: ROLE -> NEW ROLE
ES:
JASON SPEZZA: C -> C,LW

Again, try to keep in mind the criteria reported below before requiring any role change for your players.

If you don't bring any player case up for discussion, the commission will still apply the due corrections to the roles of your players considered wrong.

Please note that your eventual suggestions will be heard and discussed, but the final decision will be up to the commission only.

If you do not express your opinions now, you’ll still be able to dispute commission’s decisions later on in the off-season, once they’ll be made available (dates and deadlines have yet to be established).

Criteria for players roles definition

- CONTRACTS  STATUS  INFLUENCE
For free agents the positions will be freely determined by the commission.
(That could involve restricted free agents too, as at the moment we can’t know exactly which FA will be named RFA).

If instead the player is under contract and his role doesn’t look wrong to the commission, the role will stay the same as it was when the team that currently holds his rights acquired the player (via signing or trade).*

We will be particularly careful to apply changes that involve the addition/substraction of a second position to the role the player had when the team that currently holds his rights acquired him. However, the commission will still feel free to apply such change whenever considered due.

*note: players acquired through the drafts were selected without their role being defined yet, so the fact they may be still under contract won’t affect commission’s decision like if they were acquired through signing or trade.

- MAIN  CRITERION  TO  ASSIGN  DOUBLE  POSITIONS
(triple roles won’t be allowed because of computing needs)

Having to choose a single position for the player, experiencing troubles while deciding which fits better

- DO  THE  EVOLUTION (cit.)
The most recent position played is not going to be a decisive factor unless it’s been consistent over more than a mere few months.
Evaluating a double position for a player, the last few months of his play probably won’t affect your honest answer to the aforementioned main criterion.
However, if the player has been playing consistently and for a long time out of what is considered to be his natural position, we will weigh the option of the double position even if choosing a single position would not cause a headache.

Example:
Patrick Marleau is a natural center, so applying the main criterion he would be a C only; however, he has been playing RW consistently along the last season and half, making worth of consideration for him the addition of the RW position
.

- LW/RW  LIMITATIONS
Most wingers could play on both sides and there are often difficulties and uncertainties in determining with accuracy the best position between LW and RW.
That would leave a lot of room for arguments over many decisions.. or would lead to a whole lot of players with the LW/RW role.
To prevent the first risk, no LW/RW will be assigned to under contracts players that had not such role already when the team that currently holds their rights acquired them. Also, to avoid the potential overabundance of the LW/RW double position, we will assign it only to some of the free agents that could theoretically deserve it.

- ENTRY  DRAFTEES  EXCEPTION
As remarked in the first post of this thread, the roles assigned during the off-season will stay the same from September to the end of our playoffs; however, an exception to that rule could be made for entry draftees entering the league
:
to allow corrections on possible mistaken roles assigned to players that had yet to be seen play in the league, GMs will have the chance to ask for a change of an entry draftee’s role as long as he will have played no more than 20 regular season games in the NHL.
Also free agents with less than 20 games can be asked for a role change, but they can't be signed before (even LTIR contracts) or have auction pending on them.
No exceptions will be considered after the 20 games mark.

It is settled that the eventual correction can not lead to the addition of a second position.

You can ask for a change of the roles that will be assigned by the commission, but your request will be certainly rejected if it won’t match the above criteria. And that condition being satisfied will make the change possible, not due.

I'm not sure GMs kept in mind our criteria above when posting requests.

I am not sure if this is the right thread but I drafted Spooner "Spugnettadopoavervistoilvideodisaratommasi" as a LW and I now find it as a C in the roster on the website.

Players that have yet to enter the NHL will have their roles fixed this off-season if blatantly wrong; if the role is dubious GMs will have a chance to ask for a review before the 11th game of the player's first season.

Speaking of Spooner, he seems to be considered a C on most sources:
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... pid=116089
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=23117
http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/players/pl ... an-spooner

not only on nhl.com
http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=84 ... l-keymatch

his position hasn't changed btw, you drafted him as a C already cause our site by default imports nhl.com position.

Spooner's case may be similar to Seguin's. Entering the league as a supposed C, might indeed become a LW later on if consistently used at that position at the NHL level.

Requests on Booth, Comeau and Setoguchi were not acceptable by our criteria.
("To prevent the first risk, no LW/RW will be assigned to under contracts players that didn't have such role already when the team that currently holds their rights acquired them")

The League Commission voted on other requests.

All players positions (free agents too) have now been updated on the league site.

Chiedo il cambio di ruolo per Huberdeau, da C a LW...gioca in quella posizione da inizio stagione, riporto anche il lineup dei Panthers di sotto tanto per far vedere che non racconto balle
