Glendale city council will vote tonight to accept or turn down a list of demands put forth by the NHL. Chief among them is a guarantee to cover operating losses incurred by the Coyotes next season if the team cannot be sold to a group that will operate the team at Jobing.com Arena going forward.
....
the NHL wants "certain immediate financial commitments and assurances," and if they can't receive them it's believed the league will begin the process of selling the franchise to a group that would relocate the team. Winnipeg is at the top of the list of potential relocation markets.
That's where Chipman and his group would come in. There have been reports that a purchase agreement between True North and the NHL is already in place...

:gazza:Under the contingency plan, Winnipeg would replace the Colorado Avalanche in the Northwest division, joining the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild.
Colorado would move into the Pacific division, which features three California-based teams and the Dallas Stars

:(The seven-member council of Glendale, Arizona will vote tonight on a proposal to allow city manager De Beasley to satisfy all the NHL's requirements to keep the Phoenix Coyotes in Arizona for the 2010-11 season. One of those requirements is believed to be covering off the club's losses, expected to be $20 million or more.
The vote is expected to pass, allowing Glendale more time - as much as another year - to work with the NHL to find someone to keep the team in Arizona.

Re: Back to Winnipeg?!
Ieri sera ho letto che nel caso in cui Winnipeg prendesse il posto di Phoneix, Colorado sarebbe la candidata per tornare nella Pacific Division e rimpiazzare il posto dei Coyotes.

Stamattina ho letto che probabilmente Phoenix giocherà anche la prossima stagione, quindi colorado rimarrà, almeno per ora, nella Northwest.[...]a CBC report surfaced about the NHL including a team from Winnipeg on its “contingency” schedule for the 2010-11 season.
With the Phoenix Coyotes moving back to Winnipeg looking more like a real possibility, the contingency schedule had the new Winnipeg team moving to the Northwest Division and the Colorado Avalanche moving to the Pacific Division.
