College Basketball 2010

Post by Luca10 »

EAST: Kenny Boynton Jr (Florida), Dominic Cheek (Villanova), DeMarcus Cousins (Memphis?), Derrick Favors (Georgia Tech), Milton Jennings (Clemson), Ryan Kelly (Duke), Alex Oriakhi (UConn), Peyton Siva (Louisville), Lance Stephenson (Undecided: Kansas, St. John's), Dexter Strickland (UNC), Dante Taylor (Pittsburgh), Maalik Waynes (Villanova).
WEST: Avery Bradley Jr. (Texas), Abdul Gaddy Jr. (Washington), Keith Gallon (Oklahoma), Xavier Henry (Memphis), John Henson (UNC), Wally Judge (Kansas State), Tommy Mason-Griffin (Oklahoma), Mason Plumlee (Duke), Renardo Sidney Jr. (USC), Michael Snaer (Florida State), David Wear (UNC), Travis Wear (UNC).

un po' di impressioni prese da draftexpress...

John Henson, 6-10, SF/PF, Committed to North Carolina- Henson (#3 Scout, # 6 Rivals, #3 ESPN) may not have put on an ounce of weight since the last time we saw him in Las Vegas this past July, but he looks considerably more skilled and more comfortable in his own skin. Despite possessing an Anthony Randolph-esqe frame, Henson showed some unbelievable tools on the court, putting the ball on the floor time after time in the open court, and looking absolutely deadly with his pull-up jumper. His touch is incredibly soft from the outside and his release lightning quick. Athletically he is off the charts, and his skill-level is awfully impressive as well. His lack of strength is a major hindrance, making it difficult for him to finish through contact inside, and causing him to lose his balance easily when pushed around, but he looked very focused out here and was able to accomplish quite a bit in the possessions we observed. His talent and overall upside is obviously tremendous. We had a chance to speak with Henson a bit after the practice, and came away extremely impressed by the way he handles himself off the court. We’ll be posting an interview we did with him shortly—he had some very interesting things to say.

Michael Snaer, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Committed to Florida State- Snaer (#22 Scout, #11 Rivals, #44 ESPN) was one of the few players who clearly came out here with a chip on his shoulder, looking to prove that he belonged, and more-so, trying to show that he’s better than advertised. Physically, he’s going to fit in at Florida State right away, as he’s an excellent athlete with a good frame and a big time motor. He played extremely hard throughout the scrimmage, looking to assert himself whenever possible, showing a nice first step, a good looking mid-range jumper, and solid defensive skills as well. It looked like his overall skill-level was still catching up to his athletic ability, particularly his ball-handling skills, but that’s not a shock considering the stage of development he’s currently at.

Ryan Kelly, 6-9, Power Forward, Committed to Duke- Kelly (#11 Scout, #20 Rivals, #11 ESPN) was arguably the most impressive player seen in the skill-based portion of the practice, as he’s an incredibly skilled big man with outstanding fundamentals. All the drills came very naturally to him, and he executed them with the greatest of ease, in text-book fashion. His ability to knock down jumpers from stand-still or off the dribble situations is going to get him playing time right away at Duke, and he’s also a solid athlete with a nice feel for the game from what he showed. Due to the lack of wing players on his roster (including Stephenson), Kelly was forced to play the small forward position during the scrimmage, which obviously isn’t his forte. It was interesting to see how seriously he took the proceedings today, unlike many of his teammates, something Coach K obviously would have enjoyed seeing.

Michael Snaer again showed a fire that will endear him quickly to the coaching staff at Florida State, already known as one of the top defensive teams in college basketball this past season. He was constantly around the ball on both ends of the floor, grabbing offensive rebounds, scrapping for loose balls and always looking to make his presence felt. He made a number of aggressive plays on the defensive end, going right at the likes of Xavier Henry, Avery Bradley and Abdul Gaddy. His mid-range game continued to look pretty impressive, and when being guarded by a smaller player like Gaddy for example, he even tried to take him down to the paint and post him up. Snaer isn’t the most skilled player you’ll find here, but his physical tools, the tenacity in which he plays with and his raw talent leads you to believe that he has a chance to develop into an interesting prospect down the road.

Avery Bradley really came to play today, doing an outstanding job showing his skill-set on both ends of the floor. His outstanding athleticism was constantly on display with the way he crashed the offensive glass, coming up with a number of excellent put-backs, and also hammering home some impressive dunks in transition—not a surprise considering that he won the dunk contest last night. While not yet a great 3-point shooter, and likely an improvable ball-handler, Bradley showed a terrific first-step and a prolific mid-range game, which should allow him to make an impact offensively for Texas right away. Defensively, he was outstanding as he always is, showing a real competitive spirit that was sorely lacking at these practices the past two days. Even though he’s clearly not a point guard, and his current limitations are fairly evident, Bradley has the makings of an intriguing long-term prospect that we’ll definitely have to keep an eye on right away in the Big 12.

Mason Plumlee put on quite a show at the dunk contest last night in terms of athleticism and pure creativity, and he continued to impress today with his excellent raw physical tools. He set the tone early on at the practice by diving on the floor for a loose ball, which immediately seemed to raise the level of intensity for everyone around him. He had a couple of impressive moves around the rim, putting the ball on the floor and finishing emphatically at the rim, and also showed a nice stroke from beyond the arc. He’s clearly a very raw prospect who is quite a ways away from being able to contribute on the defensive end the way Coach K will demand from him next year at Duke, but his upside is definitely intriguing.

In terms of disappointments, there were a few to note as well.

Renardo Sidney hasn’t done much beyond hanging out around the 3-point line and jacking up bad shots, and is playing quite selfishly as well. He’s put in very little effort thus far, particularly on the defensive end, and looks like he will be a major project for Tim Floyd next season.

Tiny Gallon is another player that seems to mostly be in vacation mode in the practices we’ve observed thus far. He’s put zero effort in defensively, has mostly been settling for pull-up jumpers offensively, and hasn’t looked very serious in the drills either. You can clearly see the talent with his ability to create shots impressively at the power forward position and use his huge hands and excellent footwork to operate inside, but he hasn’t done that enough in this setting yet unfortunately.

Xavier Henry has pretty much been in a daze for the past two days, which is understandable considering how confused he must be by the potential departure of John Calipari to Kentucky. He has to be feeling pretty smart about putting in the clause to his Letter of Intent allowing him to nullify his commitment to Memphis in the event of Coach Cal leaving, and the word here is that he’ll be headed to Kansas if that indeed happens. That’s likely the reason why Lance Stephenson has elected to put off his announcement to commit to KU until all that plays out, and it could have ramifications on the decision of top 2010 wing prospect Harrison Barnes as well. Back to Henry, he hasn’t shown a great of excitement in the action we’ve seen here, putting little effort in on the defensive end and being very ineffective with his perimeter shooting as well. His conditioning doesn’t appear to be 100% either, which is not a surprise considering the extended time he’s been forced to sit out earlier this season.

- quintetto
- minutaggio garantito
- sproposito di palloni da gestire in attacco
- last but not least, dindini.

Certo è che Under Armour sta salendo su proprio forte forte forte ultimamente eh.
